PEOPLE

By women for women

EACH PIECE IS DESIGNED IN MEXICO CITY AND THEN HANDMADE BY OUR LOCAL SEAMSTRESSES.

CIHUAH means WOMEN in Nahuatl language, recognizing the Mexican indigenous women who create traditional craft designs. The brand pays tribute to the basic geometric patterns of indigenous Mexican clothing, respecting their tradition while creating and innovating with a contemporary look.

 *SOCIAL CONSCIOUSNESS

We are a transparent brand that, beyond its business, focuses on women empowerment through fashion. We want to positively impact our community and interest groups such as our suppliers, artisans and clients.

From the beginning, our mission focuses on empowering women and supporting women to be full participants in society. We help them to become leaders in their families, their communities and their lives.

 *HUMAN VALUES

A BRAND WORKING WITH RESPECTS FOR OTHERS, WITH PASSION AND HUMILITY.

*Gives service that makes people happy.

*Shows love and care in all our action.

*Enriches as many lives as possible.

 TEAM

Over the years, CIHUAH team has grown in size and scope, integrating its values into the warp and weft of our company.

Today our Social & Environment Consciousness program at CIHUAH extends across the company—from marketing to manufacturing, from design to finance. At our corporate headquarter, our team engage in social activism and community renewal.

We form privileged relationships with every single supplier to form trust-based, long-term relationships. All of our designs are produced in Mexico for a concern of a healthy local economy, for a smaller carbon footprint and for an eco-responsibility on the planet.

This option also ensures that employees are treated fairly under the strict Mexican worker protection laws. In this way, we have the control of the quality of working conditions and the supply of materials. We spend months finding the best tailors in Mexico City. We visit them often and build strong personal relationships with the owners. Each dressmaker receives a fair wage, has reasonable hours and works in respectable conditions.

WOMEN EMPOWERED

WE MAKE CHANGE BY CREATING OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN.

CIHUAH IS A RESPONSIVE FASHION BRAND THAT EMPLOYS AND EMPOWERS WOMEN AS A SOLUTION TO GENDER EQUALITY. WE INVEST IN, TRAIN AND EDUCATE WOMEN SO THEY CAN EARN A LIVING AND THRIVE.

Globally women often hold the lowest-paid and least-secure jobs. Yet we know women invest twice as much of their income into their families compared to men. When a woman is economically empowered, her children and community thrive, making her strong to eradicating violence and indifference towards women in our country.

During 7 years of experience in the fashion industry, we have had the opportunity to provide work to 25 seamstresses, we have benefited 61 artisans from low resources in the communities of Chiapas and Oaxaca, we have employed 15 women who have worked directly in the brand , we have collaborated with more than 36 creative women and 3,500 clients that we have directly impacted with our designs, we have created a digital community of more than 36 thousand followers (mostly women) whom we impact with our communication with specific actions such as CihuahVoices where we invite women experts in sustainability, impact, technology, among others, to tell about their career and experience.

In addition, we have developed different initiatives by donating part of our sells to foundations aimed at women, such as Fundación Origen AC, Fundación Ayuda y Solidaridad con las Niñas de la calle I.A.P, Fundación Gilberto AC, Reinserta ORG and Fucam AC.

We are committed to the empowerment of women, which is why we are always looking for initiatives focused on helping women in vulnerable situations by providing them with a fair salary and favorable conditions making our clothing.

ARTISANS SUPPORT AND ADVANCEMENT

Artisan groups are often made up of women and small producers who are based in Mexico. By re-integrating artisanal products into the global market, we are offering better economic opportunities for vulnerable groups, while expanding the audience for handcrafted, special pieces.
We are also working with 7 artisan communities, Aguacatenango, Unión Hidalgo, San Juan Chamula, San Andrés, Tsabalhó, Nachij and San Pedro offering them work during COVID times to ensure a monthly salary that allows them to pay for their needs.

OUR COMMUNITY

Our CIHUAHWOMEN community continues to grow and it inspired us to launch @cihuahwomen in instagram, which promote unstoppable and extraordinary women who help to transform the lives of other women.

Also, we create CIHUAHVOICES, which are talks in which we invite women from our community to do a live IGTV for 1 hour every Wednesday. The idea is to provide a digital and educational space with tools to inspire, find new mindsets and live our new reality. #cihuahvoices

To be #cihuahwomen is to be a woman who inspires us. An independent and strong woman who acts to hold our society accountable and sensitized, who belongs to a community that drives and supports design.

With our community of Cihuahwomen, we are partnering with women business leaders to create a movement for change. And we are assessing how we can support the women at CIHUAH and across our supply chain. This involves asking questions, thinking differently and creating the world we want to live in.

 THE BRAND CELEBRATES ALL WOMEN:

THANK YOU, CIHUAHWOMEN.

SUPPORT AND WEAR THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE

Increasingly we are looking for ways to further our human rights reach. Some of our initiatives are:

  • Partnering with nonprofits to share information and tackle problems jointly.

  • Assessing our internal processes to understand how our practices impact the well-being of the workers who make our clothes.

  • Paying attention to vulnerable populations outside of headquarter walls, especially the craftwomen in rural Mexico.
